Pharrell – audiojuju https://www.audiojuju.com Music News Wed, 28 Apr 2021 13:35:18 +0000 en hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.8.2 https://www.audiojuju.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/cropped-twitter1-01-32x32.png Pharrell – audiojuju https://www.audiojuju.com 32 32 Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker Discusses Creative Process on Rick Rubin’s Podcast https://www.audiojuju.com/ti1/ Wed, 29 Apr 2020 13:54:54 +0000 https://www.audiojuju.com/?p=878 During Rick Rubin’s Broken Record podcast, Kevin Parker gave a rare insight into his creative process by sharing an a cappella voice memo of a Tame Impala song idea.

Joining Rubin’s podcast via a Zoom call, Parker played what he described as a “very candid” voice memo, explaining how song ideas unexpectedly come to him and how he forms them into a full-length track.

“It’s like flicking on the radio… [when you flick on the radio] it’s not like starting the song. It’s like coming in halfway through a chorus. And then I do my best to get to a place where I can record it, before I forget it… It’ll be like two bar, or a one bar piece of music,” he explained.

“I’ve obviously got like a hundred voice memos on my phone. It’ll be like two bar, or a one bar bit of music,” he adds, claiming that he forgets about 90% of the ideas he has. “It’s rare that I’ll listen back to it and decide that it’s good enough. I don’t know why.”

You can hear the voice memo from the 29-minute mark below:

One of the weirder kernels of inspiration Parker highlighted was a six-part YouTube video series on the making of Justin Timberlake’s debut solo album, Justified.

“It almost seems like leaked footage, because it’s just fly on the wall, someone’s holding the video camera the whole time… The first bit of ‘Breathe Deeper’ was kind of me pretending to be Pharrell and Justin [Timberlake] making Justified,” Parker laughed.

Parker recently shared a “self-isolation” edition of The Slow Rush, dubbed The Slow Rush In An Imaginary Place.

Beck Releases a Melancholy ‘Uneventful Days’ Video Featuring Tessa Thompson And Evan Rachel Wood https://www.audiojuju.com/beck-releases-a-melancholy-uneventful-days-video-featuring-tessa-thompson-and-evan-rachel-wood/ Wed, 23 Oct 2019 18:58:18 +0000 https://www.audiojuju.com/?p=575 Last week, Beck announced his forthcoming album Hyperspace and shared a couple of new songs, including the lovely synth ballad “Uneventful Days.” which Beck co-wrote and co-produced with Pharrell.  Beck has shared his new video for the single ‘Uneventful Days’ – directed by Blood Orange mastermind Dev Hynes.

Hynes has directed most of Blood Orange’s videos, and he’s always brought a warm, hazy resonance to them. That extends to the “Uneventful Days” video, a series of images of people having all sorts of internal emotional moments. And the video’s cast is full of movie stars, including Evan Rachel Wood, Tessa Thompson, and Alia Shawkat.

‘Hyperspace’, the follow-up to 2017’s Grammy award-winning ‘Colors’, will be released on November 22 and features a number of songs co-produced by Pharrell.

As an added bonus, Hynes has filled the “Uneventful Days” clip with references to past Beck videos. Tessa Thompson, for instance, more or less cosplays Beck in the classic 1996 Mark Romanek “Devil’s Haircut” video, while Evan Rachel Wood dresses as Beck in 1999’s “Sexx Laws” clip, directed by Beck himself.
