Outside Lands 2021 Moves to Halloween Weekend with Tame Impala, Lizzo and The Strokes https://www.audiojuju.com/outside-lands-2021/ Sun, 21 Mar 2021 13:47:49 +0000 https://www.audiojuju.com/?p=1061 San Francisco’s Outside Lands has locked in its 2021 lineup on the same day it canceled its 2020 edition back in June. However, the lineup has now been tweaked a bit as the music festival has rescheduled for a little later in the year, now happening Halloween weekend (October 29-31) in Golden Gate Park. It was originally set for early August.

The 2021 lineup includes headliners Tame Impala, Lizzo and The Strokes, plus Tyler, the Creator, Vampire Weekend, J Balvin, Young Thug, Kaytranada, Khruangbin, Nelly, Glass Animals, Brittany Howard, Burna Boy, Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, Flo Milli, JPEGMAFIA, Moses Sumney, Yves Tumor, Bartees Strange and more.

Outside Lands’ previously billed performers The 1975, Beach House, Polo & Pan, Big Thief, Parcels, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, The Beths, and others won’t make the transition to the new dates.

“We have been eagerly anticipating our return to Golden Gate Park for over a year now and although we have to wait a few months longer, we couldn’t be more excited to present an epic Halloween edition of Outside Lands,” said Allen Scott, President of Concerts & Festivals at Another Planet Entertainment and Co-Producer of Outside Lands, in a statement. “The shift in dates allows us to work collectively to determine any new safety measures necessary to implement during the festival weekend. We ask fans to use this time before the festival to continue exercising common sense COVID safety practices and we look forward to being together again soon.”

Tickets are on sale now via the Outside Lands website. All previously purchased passes will be honored for the new dates, and those unable to attend can seek a refund up until April 17th.

Outside Lands joins the list of events hoping to return after a pandemic year. Life Is Beautiful, III Points, Louder Than Life, and Welcome to Rockville have announced plans to hold events this year, while Bonnaroo has tentatively been postponed until September. Coachella has also been postponed, though no new dates have been revealed.

Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker Discusses Creative Process on Rick Rubin’s Podcast https://www.audiojuju.com/ti1/ Wed, 29 Apr 2020 13:54:54 +0000 https://www.audiojuju.com/?p=878 During Rick Rubin’s Broken Record podcast, Kevin Parker gave a rare insight into his creative process by sharing an a cappella voice memo of a Tame Impala song idea.

Joining Rubin’s podcast via a Zoom call, Parker played what he described as a “very candid” voice memo, explaining how song ideas unexpectedly come to him and how he forms them into a full-length track.

“It’s like flicking on the radio… [when you flick on the radio] it’s not like starting the song. It’s like coming in halfway through a chorus. And then I do my best to get to a place where I can record it, before I forget it… It’ll be like two bar, or a one bar piece of music,” he explained.

“I’ve obviously got like a hundred voice memos on my phone. It’ll be like two bar, or a one bar bit of music,” he adds, claiming that he forgets about 90% of the ideas he has. “It’s rare that I’ll listen back to it and decide that it’s good enough. I don’t know why.”

You can hear the voice memo from the 29-minute mark below:

One of the weirder kernels of inspiration Parker highlighted was a six-part YouTube video series on the making of Justin Timberlake’s debut solo album, Justified.

“It almost seems like leaked footage, because it’s just fly on the wall, someone’s holding the video camera the whole time… The first bit of ‘Breathe Deeper’ was kind of me pretending to be Pharrell and Justin [Timberlake] making Justified,” Parker laughed.

Parker recently shared a “self-isolation” edition of The Slow Rush, dubbed The Slow Rush In An Imaginary Place.

Bonnaroo 2020 Lineup Announced: Headliners Tame Impala, Lizzo and Tool Are Part of a Strong Eclectic Weekend https://www.audiojuju.com/bonnaroo-2020-lineup-announced-headliners-tame-impala-lizzo-and-tool-are-part-of-a-strong-eclectic-weekend/ Tue, 07 Jan 2020 15:52:41 +0000 https://www.audiojuju.com/?p=682 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival is returning this year to Manchester, Tennessee, from June 11-14. Today, the 2020 lineup has been announced. The headliners are Tame Impala, Lizzo, and Tool. The lineup also includes Lana Del Rey, Vampire Weekend, Flume, Miley Cyrus, the 1975, Run the Jewels, Young Thug, Megan Thee Stallion, Brittany Howard, DaBaby, Jason Isbell, Tenacious D, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Nelly performing all of Country Grammar, Cuco, Makaya McCraven, and more.

However, in true Bonnaroo fashion, the trio is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this year’s lineup.

They’ll be joined by Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey, Vampire Weekend, Bassnectar, The 1975 and Flume. Other eclectic highlights include Run The Jewels, Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby, Oysterhead, Tenacious D, Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, Leon Bridges, Young Thug and Grace Potter.

Lizzo will also be making headlines at Bonnaroo, as the first-ever female artist to top the bill at Bonnaroo. The “Truth Hurts” singer is in the midst of a phenomenal year, but she previously came to Bonnaroo (and stole the show) on one of its smaller “tent” stages in 2016.

Alternative rock outliers Tool are returning to Bonnaroo after previously headlining in 2007 – the largest gap ever for a returning headliner. They’ll also perform at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on January 29.

Australian psychedelic rockers Tame Impala have thrived at Bonnaroo – their performance on the festival’s secondary stage in 2016 attracted one of the largest crowds of the weekend. They’ll make their Bonnaroo headlining debut this year, closing out the festival on Sunday night.

Last year was a big one for Bonnaroo. In 2019, the festival sold out for the first time in six years.
